The Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry is one of the most dynamic and foundation courses offered in pure science, and should be the degree of choice for students who aspires to pursue Ph.D. studies in any of the traditional sub-areas of the field (Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry) or students who are interested in careers based on Chemical Industry.

Index mark is calculated as per the following formula:
Index = Total mark + Mark in chemistry + Bonus − Handicap

Bonus = NSS (15) + NCC (15) + NCC A cert(3) + NCC B|C cert(5) + Ex-service man(15)

Handicap = 5 mark each for every additional attempt in plus two papers

CH1BO1 - Methodology of Chemistry as a discipline of Science

  • Develop broad outline of the methodology of science in general and Chemistry

    in particular

  • Understand the important analytical and instrumental tools used for practicing

    chemistry

  • Learn computer based presentation and statistical analysis of data using

    spreadsheet software

  • Develop skills in the analysis of experimental data in chemistry practical

 

 

 

CH2B01: Theoretical and Inorganic Chemistry

  • Acquire essential theoretical knowledge on atomic structure, periodic properties,

    chemical bonding, and nuclear chemistry.

  • Develop skill to predict the geometry of simple molecules

  • Understand the molecular orbital theory of diatomic molecules

  • Understand the classification and nomenclature of organic compounds, fundamentals of organic reaction mechanism, aromaticity and stereochemistry

  • Acquires thorough knowledge about the chemistry of some selected

    functional groups and develop proper aptitude towards the study of organic

    compounds and their reactions

    CH5B01 –Chemistry of d and f block elements

  • Understand the chemistry of transition and inner transition

    metals, coordination compounds, organometallic compounds, metal carbonyls and

    bioinorganic chemistry.

  • Understand the role of metals in biological systems.

    CH5B02- Basic Organic Chemistry-II

  • Get thorough knowledge about the mechanisms of reactions of some

    selected functional groups in organic compounds and also gives an outline of applied

    organic chemistry and the applications of organic chemistry in various spheres of

    chemical sciences.

  • Identify organic compound using UV, IR and PMR spectroscopic techniques

  • Develop basic skills required for crystallisation, distillation, solvent extraction,

    TLC and column chromatography.

 

CH5B03-States of matter

 

  • Understand the general characteristics of different states of matter

 

  • Understand the dynamics of the molecules in the gases and liquids

 

CH5B04-Quantum Mechanics and Spectroscopy

  • Understand the fundamentals of quantum mechanics and its applications in the study

    of structure of atoms, bonding in molecules and molecular spectroscopy

  • Understand the principle and applications of microwave, infra red, Raman,

    electronic and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
