Department of Commerce

The demand for a commerce college was so huge in western part of Kochi, which was a prominent centre of business and trade amongst the various communities that the need culminated in the form of Department of Commerce of The Cochin College. Western Kochi, which is famous for its trade and commerce, steadily provided a stream of laborious and intellectual students to the Under Graduate Programme with specialisation in Finance offered by the department, whereby the existence of the Department in the institution was truly justified. The Department was also equally productive by generating top three consecutive ranks in the Under Graduate Programme in the University examination in 1981. The Department of Commerce is a dream destination for those aspiring to pursue their interest in the areas of Commerce, Business and Management. The department offers some of the best academic resources for excellence, be it by way of faculty, infrastructure, library and computers. The Post Graduate Programme was offered in the year 1995 with Finance as the area of specialisation. The second batch of Under Graduate Programme offered by the Department was Bachelor of Commerce with specialisation in Marketing, considering the need of the hour in 1999. A prominent achievement which comes to the limelight is the establishment of Research Centre on 3rd August 2006. The Department also publishes double blind peer reviewed half yearly journal with an ISSN – Contemporary Commerce Review.
