Department of Bio-Technology (Aided)

The Department of Biotechnology has been in existence ever since the inception of the BSc. Botany (Model II) Vocational Plant Biotechnology course in 1998. The Biotechnology department handles the vocational subject, Plant Biotechnology of the B.Sc. Botany Model II Programme. The department of Biotechnology has a permanent faculty since January 2011. Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary modern subject which is closely linked with academic research and industry. The vocational plant biotechnology programme linked with B.Sc. Botany (Model II) course added new dimensions for the conventional degree course as it enables the students to have a strong foundation on basic concepts of ever expanding modern area of biotechnology and make them competent and confident to explore job opportunities as well as academic research in the rapidly developing subject of Biotechnology. The vocational subject is designed to train students in the frontier areas of Biotechnology like Microbiology, Microbial technology, Biotechniques & Instrumentation, Enzymology, Radiobiology, molecular biology, molecular cloning, Genetic engineering and Plant tissue culture through lecture and practical sessions.

Vision

The department is committed to inculcate basic interest in the field of Biotechnology, help to form a strong foundation on basic concepts of the subject and equip them to explore job opportunities as well as academic research in the rapidly developing subject of Biotechnology

Mission

Train students in different areas of biotechnology especially in the field of plant biotechnology through lecture and practical sessions with an inclination to industrial applications. By providing industrial exposure through on the job training, make students confident to begin their journey in the field of biotechnology by exploring job opportunities as well as follow their academic goals in the rapidly developing subject of Biotechnology.
