Department of Physics (Aided)

The Department of Physics came into being when the College was established in 1967 and became a full-fledged department when the undergraduate course started in 1980. The post graduate course with specialization in Electronics commenced in 2001. In 2020, the specialization branch was changed to material science. In 2009, M.G.University recognized the department as an approved research centre in Physics with two research guides with an intake capacity of 10 research students. At present the research centre has two research guides and 4 registered research students. The Department offers BSc Physics (Model I) course with Mathematics and Electronics as complementary subjects and MSc Physics with Material science as specialization. Both courses are in the aided stream. Apart from core Physics courses, open course in Physics- Our universe and complementary Physics for Chemistry are also offered by the department. The Department has a good library and well equipped UG, PG and research labs. The research lab facilities are open to students from other colleges also for carrying out PG level projects under the guidance of our department faculty. In addition to the strong Management support, the department is aided by Govt. of Kerala (KSCSTE) and Central Govt.( UGC) through SARD, major and minor project funds for research , development of lab facilities and conducting training programs and seminars. The faculty is actively involved in research, participation in National and international conferences and publication of research papers in reputed journals. The faculty has active research collaboration with IUCAA Pune. Broad area of research of faculty members are Crystal growth, Nano science, Astronomy & Astrophysics and High energy Physics. The research centre has facilities for Nano material synthesis, Crystal Growth and laser imaging and material characterization.

To impart quality education in the field of science. To give a better perspective to the students about the opportunities and challenges of the present world and thus enabling them to succeed in life.
